| The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) provide the overall reference framework for SDC’s cooperation programme in Pakistan.
SDC’s programme refers to 3 PRS pillars, i.e. “Improving Governance and Devolution”, “Investing in Human Capital” and “Targeting the Poor and Vulnerable”. Besides, the programme also includes topics not explicitly covered by the PRS such as Human Rights.
The overall goal of SDC’s cooperation programme in Pakistan is to reduce poverty through promoting a people-driven, equitable and ecologically sound development. The programme is structured around three broad domains: “Improving Governance” , “Increasing Income”, and "Reconstruction and Rehabilitation", underlined by a Human Rights Based Approach. Gender and HIV/AIDS are mainstreamed throughout the programme. SDC is cooperating with a broad range of public and private sector as well as international partner organisations. The financial commitment for the programme in Pakistan amounted to CHF 25 Mio in 2005. |
